Faculty Recognition

Brian Sykes, Professor Emeritus of Biochemistry, has been named Member of the Order of Canada. Read more.


Michael Houghton, Department of Medical Microbiology & Immunology and Director of Li Ka Shing Applied Virology Institute (LKSAVI), received an Honorary Doctorate of Science from East Anglia University, UK.


Vincent Agyapong, Department of Psychiatry, is an ASTech award finalist in the outstanding achievements in science and technology category. The winners will be named at a formal event in November.


Carla Prado, Alberta Diabetes Institute and Cancer Research Institute of Northern Alberta (CRINA) member, was named one of Canada's Top 40 under 40.


Glen Jickling, Department of Medicine and Neuroscience and Mental Health Institute (NMHI) member, is one of two inaugural recipients of the University of Alberta Killam Accelerator Research Award.


Kim Kelly, Department of Family Medicine, is the recipient of the Canadian Women in Medicine (CWIM) Inspiring Woman Physician award.


Tarek El-Bialy, School of Dentistry, received an honorary Doctor Medicinae Dentariae from the University of Bonn, Germany.


The School of Dentistry congratulates Trudy Aucoin on receiving the Gibb Clinical Teaching Award, and Bernie Linke on the Gibb Teaching Scholar Award. Well done!

Newell Fayad (Supervisor: Paige Lacy), Department of Medicine, was awarded an Alberta Lung Association Studentship for 2019-2020.


Kelycia Leimert, postdoctoral fellow, Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology, received the Dick Stein Award for the best paper by a graduate student from the Department of Physiology.


Sara Belga, transplant infectious disease fellow (Supervisor: Carlos Cervera), was awarded an Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA) travel award.


Arunima Sivanand (Supervisor: Robert Gniadecki), Department of Medicine, received first prize for the oral presentation Neoantigens in mycosis fungoides: whole exome sequencing discovery of immunotherapeutic targets at the Division of Dermatology Research Day.


Aishwarya Iyer (Supervisor: Robert Gniadecki), Department of Medicine, received the Paul Man Award for the presentation Cutaneous T-cell lymphoma is genetically and clonotypically heterogeneous at the Division of Dermatology Research Day.
