Application Process
Important Tips:
- Follow the application guidelines and instructions.
- Be aware of any internal deadlines (check with the department)
- Deadlines are firm.
Please read the following instructions through carefully
- Review research opportunities on the Summer Job Database.
- Once you find a project that interests you, contact that supervisor.
- After you have secured a position for the summer, and with the assistance of your new supervisor, complete an application to Alberta Innovates --Health Solutions.
- Give yourself at least 5 business days prior to the Faculty's internal deadline of January 23, 2012 to collect necessary signatures and deliver the application for internal review to:

For internal review, your application must include:
- original signatures* of the student, supervisor(s) and supervisor’s departmental chair
* Per AIHS requirements, “original signatures are required on application and letter of reference (electronic/faxed signatures are NOT accepted).”
- up-to-date transcripts (they should list the ‘unofficial’ grades for the fall 2011 semester)
- The Office of Research will review the application and obtain a Faculty signature.
- Once your application has been signed off, you will be contacted to pick it up.
- The original, COMPLETE application, plus one copy, must be returned to the Office of Research by the internal deadline of 2:00 pm, Monday, January 23, 2012
Please Note: The Office of Research will submit the complete, original application to Alberta Innovates -- Health Solutions on your behalf.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Applicants who do not meet the Faculty's internal deadline for AIHS summer studentship submissions will not be considered for partial funding through the Faculty.
- A student may apply to a number of different agencies for funding, but must have the same project and supervisor for each application, and can only submit one application per agency. Please read agency guidelines carefully.
Other Funding Opportunities
To apply for summer studentships from other agencies, the process will be slightly different. In general, the process would be as follows:
- Discuss potential funding sources with your supervisor.
- Decide which agencies would be appropriate.
- Complete the agency’s application form.
- Give yourself at least 5 business days prior to the agency’s deadline, to collect necessary signatures.
- After the application is signed off by the Faculty and the Institution, you will be contacted to pick it up.
- Submit the complete application to the agency according to their instructions.
