Postgraduate Dental Education

The Department of Dentistry in the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry at the University of Alberta offers a General Practice Residency (GPR) postgraduate program.

The General Practice Residency Program is an elective one-year residency program. Training is provided in the University of Alberta Hospital Dental Clinic and at the University of Alberta Department of Dentistry. The goal is to provide a broad range of experiences in managing dental patients with complex medical or dental needs, under the guidance of selected mentors.

The program emphasizes clinical experience and shared seminars in:

• Oral surgery

• Pediatric dentistry
• Hospital dentistry
• Conscious sedation
• Advanced oral diagnosis and treatment planning
