The Office of Postgraduate Medical Education (PGME) in the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry at the University of Alberta oversees 54 residency training programs approved by the Royal College of Physician and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) and the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC). These high-quality training programs in clinical settings enable medical residents to obtain certification from the CFPC and RCPSC. This certification is one of the requirements for obtaining a license to practice medicine in Alberta.
The Faculty also offers a wide variety of clinical and research fellowship programs to those who have completed Canadian certification. In addition, the Faculty provides residency and fellowship training to physicians from other countries.
Albertans who have graduated from medical schools outside Canada or the United States who wish to practise medicine here may apply to the Alberta International Medical Graduate Program (AIMG).
