Schools in the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry
Departments, divisions and research institutes in the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry at the University of Alberta were grouped into schools in 2009. These schools are not administrative units. Rather, they are virtual “schools of thought.”
They are intended to foster cross-discipline and cross-departmental collaborations, and to allow the Faculty to target strategic research and educational initiatives. In May 2011, the school structure underwent its first major reorganization. Faculty Council unanimously approved the creation of two new schools - Cardiac Sciences and Neuroscience.
This resulted in several changes to the composition of the remaining schools. Following is an updated list of the Faculty’s nine schools and their composition:
