Biography
Vivien Wulff, CA, CMC, FCIS
Chief Operating Officer
Vivien has held various senior leadership positions with KPMG Chartered Accountants in Edmonton, Sherritt Inc. and Northlands Park. She also acted as chief financial officer and then assistant dean, administration, for Augustana University College, completing the merger with the University of Alberta.
In 2004, Wulff joined the University of Alberta's Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry as executive director and was awarded a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators in 2008. Vivien is a University of Alberta, Faculty of Business Alumni (B.Comm. 1978), a chartered accountant and a certified management consultant.
Vivien also makes time to volunteer as an active participant in an annual Rotary orthopaedic and dental medical mission in Ecuador and currently chairs the Chartered Accountants of Canada Women's Leadership Council's working group on advancement and visibility. Vivien has held director and officer positions on boards of the Alberta Capital Region United Way and The Support Network.

Specific Responsibilities
- Oversee human resource operations for academic and non-academic staff.
- Drive continuous improvement in the services and operations of the faculty, with an understanding of unit needs, sector trends and best practices.
- Oversee all financial matters, including budget planning, financial reporting, and determination of resource needs and allocations.
- Represent the faculty on provincewide initiatives related to academic medicine financial matters.
- Oversee the delivery of faculty IT services.
- Oversee the activities of the Office of Development & Alumni Affairs.
- Oversee the faculty's Office of Communications, including corporate identity, marketing and branding; internal and external communications; media relations.
- Oversee the faculty's short- and long-range planning and construction of facilities; determine space requirements and manage existing space in close collaboration with the vice-dean, research (research lab space), and the vice-dean, faculty affairs (clinical); oversee furniture, equipment budgets and allocations.

Biography
Dr. Fraser Brenneis, MD, CCFP, FCFP
Vice-Dean, Education
Dr. Brenneis received his medical degree from the University of Alberta in 1982. He completed his residency training in family medicine with Certification of the College of Family Physicians of Canada in 1984, and became a Fellow of the College of Family Physicians of Canada in 2000.
Brenneis joined the U of A Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry as a clinical lecturer in 1987, and became an associate professor in 1997. He has practised at Edmonton's Royal Alexandra Hospital since 1984, and also bases his clinical teaching in family medicine at the Royal Alex. Dr. Brenneis was the director of undergraduate medical education in the Department of Family Medicine for 12 years.
Brenneis has a national profile in medical education. He served as the chair of the Section of Teachers of the College of Family Physicians of Canada, and in 2005 chaired the Task Force on Undergraduate Education renewal for the College of Family Medicine of Canada.
Brenneis has held several other administrative positions in the faculty. He chaired the Residency Transfer Committee for five years, and was the director of the Integrated Community Clerkship program in 2007-2008.
His research area of interest is in student career choice.

- Establish a vibrant medical education research program.
- Establish a learning resource/education support centre.
- Represent the education mission on the Faculty Executive and Faculty Management Committees.
- Develop, implement and evaluate the performance and assessment criteria for the assistant and associate deans with major education portfolios.
- Direct all processes for academic appeals and practicum intervention appeals.

Biography
Dr. Dennis Kunimoto, MD FRCP(C)
Acting Vice-Dean, Faculty Affairs
Dr. Kunimoto graduated from the University of Alberta medical school in 1980. He undertook a residency in internal medicine at the University of Alberta and subspecialty training in infectious diseases at the University of Manitoba. This was followed by three years of research training at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland, in the areas of immunology and molecular biology.
Since joining the Division of Infectious Diseases in the Department of Medicine in 1988, he has served in numerous leadership/administrative roles. He has either led or had membership on committees involved in many different aspects of clinical service, medical education, research and administration for the faculty, the university and the University of Alberta Hospital.
He has performed committee work related to infection control, information management and electronic medical records, academic evaluation and appeals, and residency training, among other things.
Kunimoto has served as the acting chair of the Department of Medicine, and most recently, as associate chair, academic, in the department. On the clinical side, he has been medical director of the Edmonton TB Clinic since 1999.
Kunimoto’s research interests centre on the immunology and molecular biology of mycobacteria. His clinical interests include tuberculosis, hepatitis C and HIV.
He sits on committees for tuberculosis at the provincial and national level, and is on the executive of the Alberta Medical Association’s infectious diseases section and the Alberta Society for Infectious Diseases.

Biography
Dr. Marek Michalak, PhD, FRSC
Vice-Dean, Research
Dr. Michalak is a professor in the Department of Biochemistry and a fellow of the Royal Society of Canada.
After completion of his M.Sc. degree in cell biology at the University of Warsaw he obtained a PhD in biochemistry from the Nencki Institute for Experimental Biology in Warsaw. He received his postdoctoral training at the University of Toronto and at the ETH Zurich.
Michalak joined the medical faculty at the University of Alberta in 1987. He has served as chair of the faculty's Department of Biochemistry and was director of the CIHR (Canadian Institutes of Health Research) Membrane Protein Research Group.
Michalak is a world-recognized authority in the branch of cellular biology related to protein-folding and calcium homeostasis, and their role in disease. He has had a major impact on our understanding and treatment of many protein-folding disorders including congenital heart diseases
and neuropathies.
His work has been supported by the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, the Canadian Institutes of Health Research,
Multiple Sclerosis Society and the Alberta Heritage Foundation for Medical Research.
